awaiting aid

On July 15 2017 a convoy of trucks and cars pulled into a West Mosul neighbourhood. Volunteers from the One World Medical Mission and the Wasel Tasel Team had come to distribute much needed supplies to an area that had been all but cut off for weeks. As one resident told me, since the fighting had pushed past this area and into the old city the food and water had gone too and residents had resorted to eating cats to survive.

Volunteers from a local NGO call out names of residents from a list for them to then come forward to show their identification to be cross referenced against a list they have.

Residents wait to present their identification and once approved, receive tokens which they can exchange for much needed supplies

Volunteers from a local NGO check off names of residents from a list against their identification. Once it has been verified that they are indeed a local resident they are issued with tokens which can be exchanged for supplies such as bottled water, nappies, tooth brushes and baby formula.
